I will make this pretty easy. I use, and highly recommend, the following college guides:
- Peterson's 4-Year Colleges or The College Handbook. Both are packed with data about colleges and universities. Pick one.
- The Fiske Guide to Colleges. This guide is more subjective in its analyses of schools, but can be useful in conveying the "feel" of a campus, if not taken too literally. It profiles selected colleges that are nationally renowned and selective in admission.
Many other college guides exist. Some are as good as those mentioned above, and some are not. I recommend that you purchase the Peterson's Guide or The College Handbook, and, if you are considering national, selective colleges, The Fiske Guide. Fiske and one of the other two will complement each other nicely. These guides may be purchased at most major bookstores.
