Upper School Life

The Upper School curriculum offers a rigorous course of study that prepares our students to enter highly regarded colleges and universities in the United States and around the world. We are very proud that nearly 100% of our graduates go on to higher education. The demands of the academic workload are balanced with a wide variety of exciting extracurricular activities including clubs, sports programs, performing arts groups, and volunteer organizations. Service to the community is a graduation requirement. Prairie students adhere to a strict personal and academic honor code. The Honor System, developed and implemented by our students and faculty, requires a high level of integrity and accountability.

Prairie's Upper School curriculum features courses that offer distinct advantages for students preparing for the rigors of college and future careers. Students may select from regular college-preparatory classes, or from a broad array of Advanced Placement courses with a hands-on approach. Our English courses develop strong writing and analytical reading and thinking skills. Prairie is a recognized leader in mathematics instruction. In fact, our students regularly score above the 90th percentile in the Mathematics Association of America's High School Math Exam, one of the most demanding tests in the nation. In science, Prairie goes beyond traditional courses to offer electives in earth science, astronomy, ecology and environmental science. Our French and Spanish students may choose to take optional trips to Spain and France, including a home stay. Social studies courses focus on both content mastery and research skills development in order to foster independent, critical thinkers.
