2010 Joe Marino Memorial Golf Marathon & Jane Reardon Gittings Tennis Classic

What is the Joe Marino Memorial Golf Marathon?

Founded in 1997, the Joe Marino Memorial Golf Marathon is a day-long golf event that was started by two Prairie trustees, John Gittings and Joe Marino, to help raise money for the School.  The Marathon has been named in memory and honor of the late Joe Marino for is dedication to fundraising at Prairie.  This year, the event will take place on Friday, Sept. 24.

What is the Jane Reardon Gittings Tennis Classic?

The Jane Reardon Gittings Tennis Classic is a half-day, round-robin tennis event that began in 2009.  The tennis classic is held in memory of Jane Reardon Gittings, an active member of the community and the wife of Prairie trustee, John Gittings.

Where does the money go?

All proceeds from the Golf Marathon benefit The Prairie School Scholarship Fund.  We pride ourselves on our diverse student enrollment.  Donations to the Scholarship Fund allow bright minds from varying economic backgrounds to attend our School. Last year alone, proceeds from this event have enabled more than 20 students to attend Prairie.

Sounds like fun!  How do I get involved?

Join more than 48 golfers who brave the Wisconsin fall weather to play 36 holes to raise money.

Sponsor a Golfer!  Generously sponsor a golfer by donating $1, $2 or more per hole of golf played, or donate a flat amount.  Just be careful not to sponsor a golfer on a per-stroke basis — there is not a professional among us!

Sponsor the event!  If you own a business or want to see your name in lights (or maybe just in print), you can become one of our event sponsors!

How can I be a sponsor?

We would love to have your support!  There are three levels of event sponsorship:

  • EVENT SPONSOR $500:  Company or individual's name prominently displayed on signs at each course, plus recognition in the School's Focus newsletter and Report of Giving.
  • BIRDIE SPONSOR $1,000:  Event level benefits include a personalized Birdie level plaque plus an invitation to join the golfers for dinner at the Racine Country Club the day of the outing.
  • MASTER SPONSOR $2,500:  Birdie level benefits plus a personalized Master level plaque, golf for one at the outing, and a listing in the Premiere catalog.

I want to golf!  What can I expect?

You are in for a great day!  Start your morning with coffee and pastry, and a good stretch at either Racine Country Club or Meadowbrook country Club.  Your foursome's tee time and golf course for your morning round will be assigned.  In between rounds, enjoy a delicious lunch at Meadowbrook Country Club.  You'll golf the second course after lunch.  When the afternoon ends, join other golfers and tennis players for cocktails and dinner at Racine Country Club.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are underwritten by our generous sponsors.

I want to play tennis!  What can I expect?

Bring your best serve!  You will meet at the Racine Country Club tennis courts for a round-robin tournament - the more players we have, the more fun it is!  After playing, enjoy a delicious lunch and the Country Club.  When the afternoon ends, meet your golfer friends back at Racine Country Club for cocktails and dinner.

As a participant, how much should I expect to raise?

Our goal is to raise more than $100,000 this year.  Each golfer is expected to raise a minimum of $1,300 in sponsorships.  Tennis players are expected to raise $250 to play in the tournament, although larger donations are always appreciated!

That seems like a lot of money to raise ...

Don't worry - it's easy!  Now is the time to call in all those favors.  Remember the boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, the office pools, your niece's band fundraiser, and your old roommate's guaranteed "sure thing"?  After approaching friends, business associates, neighbors, and relatives and asking for a reasonable donation, you will be over the target!  And don't forget to ask your sponsor if they have a company match program.  Remember: all donations are tax deductible.
