Conference Award Honors Success Across All Sports

The new WIAA fall athletics season might have just started, but the Prairie Athletic Department already has some new hardware hitting the Johnson Athletic Center (JAC) trophy case.

At last summer’s Metro Classic meeting, the conference Athletic Directors voted to create a traveling trophy called the Metro Classic Cup. Schools amass points based on a variety of things including conference finish, regional titles, and sectional and state championships. (Think Capital One Cup currently awarded by the NCAA.)

At this year’s AD meeting held in September, the Metro Classic Cup was awarded to The Prairie School for the 2018-19 school year. TPS totaled 23 points to edge out runner-up Racine St. Catherine’s. Greendale Martin Luther finished third with 20 points.

“We’re excited to win the first ever Metro Classic Cup,” said Jason Atanasoff, Prairie Athletic Director. “This is a direct reflection of all the work our coaches and athletes put in on behalf of Prairie.”
