Giving 2.0

What is it?

The Prairie Fund is Prairie’s main fundraising initiative.

Participation in the Prairie Fund by current parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, corporations, and friends of the School ensures our continued health and vitality.

Our teachers know this well: since 2014, 100% of our faculty have participated in contributing to the Prairie Fund. All of them. For seven years straight. How cool is that? Doesn’t happen everywhere. This is the kind of collaboration that boosts our school’s sense of community pride and that helps all of us grow and thrive — and we want our parents to join the club!

Why is it Important?

As parents, you know the drill: your family pays tuition for each student you send to Prairie. Prairie uses that tuition to cover some of the costs of educating your child. Key word: some

Tuition is just one piece of the puzzle. It does not cover all of Prairie’s educational and operational costs, nor does it go toward funding scholarships. So, to finish the puzzle, Prairie raises money each year through various initiatives — efforts that fill in the gaps for the school’s operating budget (Prairie Fund) and/or scholarships (Prairie Premiere and the Golf Classic & Dinner).

Therefore, gifts to the Prairie Fund fill the gap between tuition and the cost to provide a Prairie education. The Prairie Fund also allows TPS to tackle new projects beyond those originally budgeted for at the beginning of the year.

What Can I Do?

It has been…a year. School has looked different. Life has looked different. What hasn’t changed is the power and importance of community here at Prairie. If the spring taught us anything, it’s that real strength comes from working to stay united together even when we are physically apart, in giving and receiving gratitude and support for each other, our faculty, and our school.

The Prairie Fund is a powerful way to continue showing that support.

We’ve already put in the work. Over the past three years, parent volunteers have led efforts to grow understanding of and support for the Prairie Fund — and parent participation has more than doubled, growing from 33% in 2017-18 up to 74% in 2019-20. This year, we continue to build on our momentum.
