The Prairie School has a national community of alumni, who are actively shaping the world—nationally or locally, publicly or quietly. In 1970, our first graduating class of 19 students, began their endeavors as young adults. Since then we’ve graduated close to 1,800 students. From authors to musicians, to doctors and lawyers, we’re amazed with the journeys and experiences our students have after graduating. Our alumni constitute a valued and important part of our school community. We celebrate this richness and encourage alumni to remain in touch.

Where Are They Now?

In the early 2000s, there was an inspiring woman in the SRC that encouraged, listened to, and was always there for the kids. Her name was Joyce Guckenberger. While she always showed a cheerful presence, she was often in crippling pain with Arthritis. Around that time, the middle school students chose to honor her in the annual Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis, assembling a school wide team called Jingle for Joyce. They raised money for Arthritis as well as honored the impact that she had on their lives. Joyce always had a smile of hope and encouragement.

This association has contacted me asking if we wanted to put a team together. If there is enough interest, it would be an honor to celebrate all that this woman brought to the kids at Prairie. What do you say? Any interest? (By the way, Joyce still resides in Caledonia with her husband Ron. And yes, she still has the bee hives and smiling disposition). Another Jingle for Joyce team?
