At Whitefish Bay High School’s Sectional last Saturday, the team placed 6th out of 11 teams.
With state qualifying on the line, the Hawks swimmers achieved personal best times in nine events and will be sending five swimmers to the WIAA State Meet in an impressive seven events! Second place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay (Nathan Breit ’26, Nolan Mrotek ’26, Borzynski, and Nolan Barrett ’27), 200 Freestyle Relay (Breit, Maksim Rozzoni ’28, Mrotek, and Borzynski), and 100 Breaststroke (Mrotek) and third place finish by Borzynski in the 50 Free all were fast enough to earn a spot at state. Breit also qualified in the 100 Backstroke, while Mrotek earned another event at state with his performance in the 50 Free.

The Hawks learned their playoff fate during the WIAA seeding show on Sunday. The team earned a #4 seed in the Sectional and will host 5th-seeded Salam in a Regional Semifinal on Friday, February 27th. Should the Hawks advance, they would likely face conference foe and #1 seed Dominican in the Regional Championship. To keep up with the Division 4 Playoff Bracket, click here.
Facing intra-city rival Park on Monday, the Hawks had trouble finding their groove in the first half against the Panthers. The back-and-forth game featured eight lead changes before the Hawks entered the break with a slim 28-25 lead. After some adjustments, TPS didn’t look back and held their lead for the remainder of the game, ultimately winning 63-52. Finley Remington ’27 led the Hawks with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Amiyah Galica ’26 added 13 points. Elle Jaramillo ’26 rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Boys’ Basketball
At Shoreland on Friday, the Hawks couldn’t get the shots to fall in their 61-49 loss to the Pacers.
Trailing by eight at half and as many as 14 in the second half, the Hawks couldn’t get any closer than six in the loss. “This one was pretty simple, we missed far too many bunnies and layups,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. “The effort was there, the boys defended pretty well and we got good looks, just have to convert at a better percentage. Although a loss, there were some encouraging moments throughout the game for us to build on heading into our final few regular season games and heading into postseason play.”
Chandler Perry ’27 led the Hawks with 14 points and 4 assists, while Nolan Greb ’26 added 13 points.

After finding their footing in the second half, the Hawks were only outscored by two in the period on their way to the 70-44 loss to the Cavaliers. Tessa Collum ’28 led the Hawks with 14 points while Galica added 13.
The Hawks got back into the win column on Thursday against conference foe Shoreland with a decisive 69-33 victory.

Boys’ Basketball
Taking on conference rival St. Joe’s on Friday, January 30th the Hawks fell 48-40 in a back and forth game on the road.
Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 led the Hawks with 11 points and seven rebounds while Emmett Wassil ’28 added 10 points.
“I realize this sounds odd, but we played really well on both ends, we just didn’t shoot well,” said Coach Atanasoff. “We shot 17-58 from the floor including 2-19 from 3, and they were clean uncontested looks. That’s the frustrating part. If we just shoot how we typically shoot, it certainly would’ve been a different outcome.”
24 hours after the St. Joe’s loss, the boys tipped off against Unity Christian in the 8th Annual Border Battle and fell in another close game, 79-73.
Down 28-14 early, the Hawks played well for the remainder and had the ball with a chance to tie, but couldn’t get the big shot to fall. Chandler Perry ’27 led the Hawks with 24 points while Ryan Vanoss ’27 added 18 points. Wassil had nine points, seven rebounds, and a team high seven assists in the loss.
“It was a tough 24 hour stretch to lose two close games,” said Atanasoff. “We went through something similar last year during this same time frame and our guys know that all we can do is continue to work hard and improve every practice and every game. The schedule doesn’t get any easier and that’s okay. While most close games were going in our favor the first part of the season that has not been the case lately, but I am confident we will turn it back around.”
Girls’ Basketball
Against conference rival St. Joe’s on Thursday the Hawks never found their rhythm in a 64-47 loss.
Amiyah Galica ’26 scored 13 points and Keira Kimbrough ’28 pulled down seven rebounds in the loss to the Lancers.
In Appleton last Saturday TPS took on Xavier (No. 3 in Division 3). After a slow start and falling behind 31-12 at the half, the girls went on a thrilling 21-0 run when action resumed to cut Xavier’s lead to one. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the momentum and wound up falling 57-46. Tessa Collum ’28 led the Hawks with 12 points, while Kimbrough added a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
In another thrilling game on Tuesday, the Hawks took on conference leader and fourth-ranked Dominican on the road. Playing well on both ends of the floor, the Hawks went into the break with a 25-22 lead over the Knights and held the lead throughout much of the second half. With the Hawks holding a 3 point lead with 13 seconds to go, Dominican hit the game-tying 3-pointer and the Hawks weren’t able to get off a potential game-winning shot. In overtime, the Hawks were bested by five and fell 58-53.
Finley Remington ’27 led the Hawks with 16 points, while Galica added 15 and Kimbrough pulled down seven rebounds.

At the RUSD Aquatic Center on Tuesday, the team celebrated seniors Nathan Breit, Jack Borzynski, Nolan Mrotek, and Joshua Utley in a dual meet against Racine Unified.
The team made the most of the night and came home with five first place individual finishes and a first place relay finish. Breit took first place in the 100 Yard Free (48.85) and 100 Yard Back (59.66) while Mrotek brought home winning finishes in the 50 Yard Free (22.94) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:05.23). Borzynski took first place in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:00.73. The relay team of Breit, Mrotek, Borzynski, and Maksim Rozzoni ’28 won the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.67. Overall, the Hawks achieved nine personal bests and they are eager to build on this momentum as they head toward conference and postseason meets in the coming weeks.
Boys’ Basketball
On Thursday, January 22nd the Hawks lost to Racine Lutheran (No. 3 in Division 3) 81-72 on the road.
Nolan Greb ’26 led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Ryan Vanoss ’27 added 18 points and three blocks. Chandler Perry ’27 had 17 points and nine rebounds. Emmett Wassil ’28 had a team high six assists and Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 added 14 points. “Love the way we competed against one of the state’s best,” said Coach Atanasoff. “Both teams shot the ball at a high clip and we just couldn’t get some key stops when needed.”
The Hawks could not keep up the same intensity Saturday against top-ranked Seymour at the Fiserv Forum. Perry led the Hawks with 15 points, Nolan Greb added 13 and Ahlensdorf added 12.
“Seymour is certainly deserving of their ranking,” said Coach Atanasoff. “That is the most physical team we’ve faced this year in the paint and they just shot the lights out. Unfortunately we shot it poorly going just 1-13 from 3.”

The team earned their first dual meet win of the season against Jefferson on Tuesday by a score of 83-70.
Jack Borzynski ’26, who, later this week signed his National Letter of Intent to swim at St. Thomas University, brought home the sole first place finish for the Hawks with a 22.70 in the 50 Free.
Second place finishes were earned in the 200 Medley Relay (Nathan Breit ’26, Nolan Mrotek ’26, Borzynski ’26, Maksim Rozzoni ’28), Breit in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke, Borzynski in the 100 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay (Borzynski, Nolan Barrett ’27, Mrotek, Maksim Rozzoni), Mrotek in the 100 Breaststroke, and the 400 Free Relay (Barrett, Breit, Rozzoni, Joshua Utley ’26).

After a two week layoff TPS defeated Shoreland 70-63 on January 16th.
Nolan Greb ’26 led the Hawks with 24 points including five three pointers. Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Vanoss ’27 added 12 points, Chandler Perry ’27 added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists and Emmett Wassil ’28 had 10 points and five assists.
Overall, the Hawks shot 25-45 from the floor including 10-17 from 3. “Good win over a quality opponent,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. “That’s the best full game we’ve put together this year for 36 minutes and obviously it helps when you shoot the way the boys did tonight. I thought we defended at a high level as Shoreland has often been in the 70s and 80s this season.”
The following night, the Hawks took on Union Grove and celebrated their four seniors: Nolan Greb, Maurice Carter, Gabe Posnanski, and Giuliano Ferrentino.
Unfortunately, the hot shooting went cold and the boys fell 67-61 to the Broncos. After being down 14 a few minutes into the second half, the boys battled back and twice had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the final two minutes, but a missed layup and a turnover ensued and Union Grove went on to secure the game at the free throw line.
“Tough to play a back to back after the long layoff,” said Atanasoff. “Proud of the way the boys battled to give ourselves a chance, but we can’t dig ourselves that hole against a solid team. We seemed a half step slow most of the night and the open looks simply weren’t falling like the night before. Schulz was special for them and whenever they needed a big shot, he came through. Hunter Greb ’28 gave us some great minutes, especially in the second half, with his defensive energy that led to multiple turnovers.”
Perry led the Hawks with 18 while Nolan Greb added 14 and Wassil and Vanoss each added 10.
Girls’ Basketball
Taking on conference opponent Shoreland on the road on January 13th the Hawks overcame a slow start to bring home the victory.
Up eight at the half, the shots started to fall after halftime en route to a 70-29 win. Four players scored in double figures for the Hawks, led by Tessa Collum ’28 with 17 points. Meghan Gavigan ’27 scored 15, while Elle Jaramillo ’26 added 12 and Jazzy McCray ’29 scored 11 to go along with her game-leading 10 rebounds.
In the final game of the Union Grove doubleheader last Saturday, the girls held a 22-19 halftime edge against the Broncos before losing their footing offensively and ultimately falling 59-34 to the Broncos. Finley Remington ’27 led the Hawks with nine points. Keira Kimbrough ’27 brought down eight rebounds.
In a bounceback game against Brookfield Academy on Tuesday, the Hawks beat the Blue Knights 62-22. Audrena Davis ’28 led the Hawks with a career high 18 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. McCray (13 points) and Remington (10 points) also scored in double figures as the team rediscovered their offensive flow.

Girls’ Cross Country
Last weekend, our girls’ cross-country team received Academic All-State honors at the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Annual Meeting and Clinic in Brookfield.
To earn individual Academic All-State recognition, athletes must qualify for the WIAA Cross Country State Meet and maintain a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher. To earn a team award, a program must carry a minimum GPA of 3.4 across five athletes.
With an impressive 4.0 GPA average across our top five runners, TPS ranked #1 in Division 2 and #1 overall in the state.
Even more impressively, out of the 70 WIAA schools that earned Academic All-State team accolades, only three other teams achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.
“Congratulations to all seven of our girls for earning individual Academic All-State honors,” said Coach Shawn Burwell. “This achievement is a testament to their dedication to both physical training and academic excellence. Balancing these demands requires tremendous effort. Thank you to all the teachers and staff for your continued support and guidance.”
Members of this year’s girls’ cross country team are Erin Gerdes ’26, Emma Meier ’28, Helina Slamka ’28, Eleanor Burwell ’29, Constanza Reyes Belaunzaran ’29, Gretta Knoell ’29, and Jazmin Pallordet ’29.
Girls’ Basketball
Playing conference leader Thomas More on January 9th the Hawks fell 69-46 to the Cavaliers. Poor shooting and a size mismatch worked against TPS, who shot 23% from the field. Despite that, the Hawks hung in for much of the game against the bigger Cavaliers and forced 21 turnovers that led to 18 points.
Tessa Collum ’28 and Jazzy McCray ’29 led the Hawks with 10 points each, and Keira Kimbrough ’27 brought down 11 rebounds.

The following day, the girls bounced back against Palatine High School and won 44-22 behind good team defense and 14 points from Elle Jaramillo ’26, who earned player of the game honors. Audrena Davis ’28 added ten points and seven rebounds for the Hawks.
Boys’ Basketball
The Hawks took on Westosha Central on December 23rd at Carthage College and won a back and forth affair 58-50.
Despite a 17 point deficit at halftime, the Falcons cut the Hawks’ lead to four before TPS was able to pull ahead in the final minutes of the game. Nolan Greb ’26 led the Hawks with 21 points and Chandler Perry ’27 added 16. Ryan Vanoss ’27 added ten points, six rebounds, and six assists. Said Coach Jason Atanasoff, “After a great first half, we struggled most of the second. We have to figure it out because our schedule gets tougher and tougher, but I’m proud the boys didn’t panic and got the job done.”
On December 29th, at Concordia Mequon, the boys took on Brookfield Academy at the annual WBY Shootout.
Going into the half trailing 42-21, the Hawks rallied after the break going on an 18-0 run in the first four minutes. TPS went on to outscore the Knights 46-12 in the second half and emerged with a 67-54 win.
Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 led the Hawks with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Greb added 17 points, Perry added 11 points and six assists, while Vanoss added 11 points and seven rebounds. “The boys responded to the challenge given to them at halftime and rather than fold, they chose to fight,” said Coach Atanasoff. “It was a quality win over a good opponent with a ton of size that can really shoot the basketball.”
Resuming their conference schedule at home on January 3rd against Thomas More, the boys played a back and forth game before eventually beating the Cavaliers 51-49.
Perry led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds and Emmett Wassil ’28 added nine points and six assists in the win. “
It was a gritty win by the boys,” said Coach Atanasoff. “This is one that certainly could have gone either way. Emmett Wassil was tremendous taking care of the basketball and Owen Jedlicka gave us, by far, his best minutes of the season.”
After a J-Term pause, the Hawks will be back in action on Friday, January 16th against Shoreland Lutheran in the JAC, followed by Senior Night at home against Union Grove on Saturday, January 17th.

Facing off against conference foe, Kenosha St. Joe’s on Friday, December 12th, TPS held on for the 52-44 win behind a strong defensive effort including four blocked shots and 13 steals.
Jazzy McCray ’29 was a highlight offensively scoring 17 points. She also grabbed 14 rebounds on her way to an impressive double-double. Tessa Collum ’28 added 12 points for the Hawks, including hitting two of three from behind the arc. Amiyah Galica ’26, Elle Jaramillo ’26, and Audrena Davis ’28 each added six points in the victory.
Behind another strong defensive effort on Monday, the Hawks couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night against Dominican. While holding Dominican’s leading scorer well below her average, the Hawks only had one player in double figures in the 57-43 loss. Galica had 15 points followed by Jaramillo with eight. Keira Kimbrough ’27 brought down 10 rebounds in the loss.
Boys’ Basketball
Hosting conference rival St. Joe’s in the JAC on Thursday, December 11th, Prairie fell 60-54 in OT to the Lancers.
Up three with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, the Hawks missed the front end of a bonus and gave up a transition three-pointer to St. Joe’s to send it to overtime. St. Joe’s took the lead in OT to gain enough momentum to win the game.
Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 led the Hawks with 16, Nolan Greb ’26 had 14 and Chandler Perry ’27 added 12.
“It was a tough one,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. “I absolutely loved how hard our boys played. Couple of plays I wish we could have back and a couple of tough calls that didn’t go our way, but the effort is there. We will learn a lot from this film and grow from this game.”
On Monday the Hawks took on Dominican in Whitefish Bay and kept it close for the majority of the first half. Tied at 22 with three minutes remaining, Dominican went on a 10-2 run to take the halftime lead. In the second half, the Hawks couldn’t overcome poor shooting and a Dominican scoring run and fell 60-43.
Nolan Greb led the Hawks with 13 points, while Emmett Wassil ’28 added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
“There was a lot of energy in the gym,” said Coach Atanasoff. “Both teams started out cold and unfortunately for us, it stayed that way for 36 minutes while Dominican went on some nice runs. We know we aren’t going to beat any teams, let alone a team as good as Dominican, going 15-50 from the floor. It wasn’t for a lack of open looks both at the rim and from the three.”
The Hawks look to bounce back against cross-town rival St. Catherine’s on Friday, December 19th.

Emmett Wassil ’28 had 12 points and 5 assists while Chandler Perry ’27 rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points in his season debut.

The hawks took on Racine Horlick at Waterford High School last Saturday and moved to 3-0 on the season. After jumping out to an 18-0 lead nine minutes, the Hawks maintained a double digit lead for the duration of the contest, winning by a final of 56-39.
Nolan Greb ’26 led the Hawks with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Ahlendsdorf had 14 points and 9 rebounds and Vanoss added 11.
“I thought we came out with good energy, which isn’t easy to do for a 10:00AM game,” said Atanasoff. “We shared the ball well, but had some careless turnovers and we will have to improve a ton on taking care of the basketball as we get into conference play.”
Opening conference play at Martin Luther on Tuesday, the team moved to 4-0 on the season with a 61-56 win over the Spartans. Trailing 12-3 early, and fighting some shots that didn’t fall, the Hawks went on a run and entered halftime trailing 24-23. After starting the second half on a 13-2 run, it was a back and forth game until the Hawks pulled away in the waning minutes.
“It was a tough, gritty win for the boys,” Atanasoff said. “ They competed extremely hard and found a way to win. I’m very proud of their effort. Martin Luther is athletic and one of the quicker teams we play.”

Ryan Vanoss ’27 added 12 points and 5 assists and Emmett Wassil ’28 had a team high 5 assists. Sophomore Hunter Greb ‘28, making his first career varsity start, had 4 assists and 0 turnovers. “It was sloppy at times, but that is to be expected for an opener. I thought the effort was there and a lot of positives, but plenty to clean up,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff.

On Thursday October 30th, and Saturday, November 1st, the Hawks participated in Sectionals.
First up was the semi-final against Sheboygan Lutheran/Sheboygan Christian. In the hard fought game, the Hawks were able to break through with a PK from Roy Rivera ’26 late in the first half to take the lead. In the second half, it was Rivera again off a free kick that he floated into the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead that the Hawks would hold until the end of the game.
After advancing through that game, the boys faced off against top-seeded Oostburg in the Sectional Final at Kohler. The Dutchmen took an early lead in the sixth minute which the Hawks were not able to come back from. Despite numerous chances and controlling a good deal of the possession, the Hawks ultimately fell 3-0, coming up short of a state tournament berth.
Girls’ Swim
The Hawks participated in the conference meet on Saturday, November 1st at Beloit Memorial High School. Though the small team finished ninth of 10 schools, three of our swimmers achieved personal best times in the meet. Senior Riley Saenim’s personal best time in the 200IM also earned her a podium finish with 7th place overall. Cora Huggins ’29 achieved a personal best in the 50 Freestyle, while Penelope Martinez ’28 recorded a personal best in the 100 Breaststroke.

Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country
Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country ran at Albany High School on Saturday and for the first time in 15 years, the girls advanced to the WIAA State Meet!
Despite being ranked 3rd in the Sectional, the girls each executed their roles and race plan, attacking the hilly course and delivering – or over-delivering – on their goals.
Freshmen Eleanor Burwell (21:43.2, 16th place), Gretta Knoell (24:26.6, 63rd place), and Jazmin Pallordet (23:36.4, 48th place) each hit personal bests at the meet, while Helina Slamka ’28 finished in 5th place (20:59.3) to lead the Hawks. Constanza Reyes Belaunzaran ’29 finished in 14th (21:40.3) and Emma Meier ’28 finished in 34th (22:49.6). The Hawks will next compete against the rest of the Division 3 field at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday, November 1st. Good luck, girls!
While the boys season ended at Sectionals, Coach Shawn Burwell was proud of what he saw in the young team who placed higher than pre-race estimates predicted.
Boys’ Soccer
In a Regional Final match at Prairie last Saturday, the Hawks took on USM in a hardfought, physical battle.
Prairie took the lead in the fifth minute through a volley from Roy Rivera ’26. The Hawks continued to control the majority of possession in the first half and created a handful of chances that weren’t converted.
“Going into the second half, we made some adjustments, but credit to USM who fought hard all the way to the end,” said Coach Joe Manley. “We defended well, but could have managed the game better. At this time of the season though, it just matters about getting over the line and a huge credit to our boys for seeing the game out and Dalton (Ahlensdorf ’27) for making a quality save to keep the game at 1-0.”
With the Regional title under their belt, the #2 Hawks advanced to Thursday night’s Sectional Semifinal where they played host to #3 Sheboygan Christian. The playoffs are predicated on tact and toughness and the Hawks once again faced a physical opponent determined to match Prairie’s intensity.
Thanks to a stingy defense and the right foot of Rivera – who scored on a PK in the first half, and on a brilliant, bending free kick in the second – the Hawks defeated Sheboygan Christian 2-0 and now advance to Saturday’s Sectional Final vs #1 seed Oostburg.
Gametime is 1:00PM at Kohler High School.
Girls’ Swimming
At the Racine Invite on Saturday, the girls had a great showing with each swimmer recording at least one personal season-best time. Jay Diaz ’27 in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, Jessica Gonzalez Escobar ’29 in the 200IM and 100 Backstroke, Cora Huggins ’29 in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, Penelope Martinez ’28 in the 100 Breaststroke, and Riley Saenim ’26 in the 200IM and 100 Backstroke. Saenim’s performances were enough to garner medals in each of those events.

The Racine County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on October 24th was a special night.
In addition to Roy Rivera ’26 and Amiyah Galica ’26 being honored as our 2025 Scholar Athletes, the results of the coveted Lighthouse Trophy – awarded yearly to Racine County’s top high school athletic program – was bestowed to The Prairie School.
Returning to Wind Point for the first time since 2021, the Lighthouse Trophy is truly a great achievement.
“We really have to thank our athletic department, our dedicated coaches, and awesome student-athletes,” said Jason Atanasoff, Athletic Director.
To cap the night, five Racine athletes – including Brittany Holterman ’04, a standout multi-sport athlete for the Hawks, who led Prairie to the 2004 WIAA State Championship in Girls’ Basketball before attending the University of Dayton – were inducted in the County Hall of Fame.
Congratulations, Hawks!
Cross Country
Behind four top ten finishers at the Metro Classic Conference Meet last Saturday, Girls’ Cross Country brought home Prairie’s first conference title since 2010.
Helina Slamka ’28 led the way in 21:55, good enough for 3rd place and an All-Conference nod.
Also earning all-conference awards were Constanza Reyes Belaunzaran ’29 with her sixth place finish in 22:05, Eleanor Burwell ’29 with her eighth place finish in 22:14, and Emma Meier ’28 who finished in ninth place with her time of 22:38.
The girls, who have been holding steady in the Division 3 rankings all year, will run for their chance at a WIAA State berth on Saturday, October 25th.
For the boys’ team, despite rainfall the night before, they managed to shave an average of two minutes off their times from their run on the same course six weeks prior.
Cole Johnson ’27 led the way with a time of 20:56.56, good enough for a 24th place finish with Liam Anton ’29 right behind him in 27th place with a time of 21:22.30. Martin Ostergaard ’29 ran a 22:16.64, Zander Rangel ’28 ran a 22:23.86 while Luca Castellano ’29 and Alex VanDeLoo ’28 crossed the line in 24:36.52 and 25:22.28, respectively.

In WIAA regional action, the Hawks took on Williams Bay at home on Tuesday winning 3-0 in a strong performance. Although Williams Bay fought hard, the Hawks gained early momentum by the second set and began to dominate play. They carried this momentum into the third set which they won 25-15 score against the Bulldogs.
On the road in Thursday’s Regional Semifinal, the Hawks took on top-seeded Heritage Christian and fell in straight sets. Though the match started strongly, Heritage Christian pulled away after an 11-11 tie.
Middle blockers — Kaylin Shannon ’26, Leticia Berger ’28 — and right-side hitter Isabelle Wassweiler ’27 put up an excellent defensive effort, consistently challenging the opponent’s powerful attacks. They made multiple crucial blocks, sometimes stopping several hits in a rally, which helped keep the team competitive against the Patriots hitting power.
Shannon also shined offensively, tallying multiple consecutive kills, showcasing her offensive presence on the court.
“While this match marked the end of our season, the team demonstrated resilience and effort all year long,” said Coach Kei Kondo. “Despite the loss, we are proud of the growth we’ve shown and look forward to continuing to improve in the seasons to come.”

In a thrilling rivalry match against Racine Lutheran on Tuesday, Girls’ the Hawks secured a commanding 3-0 victory. The entire team played with energy and focus, but their passing was a key factor in the straight-set win.
Offensively, Addison Zaleski ’27 led the attack with 11 kills, showcasing her consistent scoring ability. Leticia Berger ’28, who had her best match of the year with a season-high 6 kills made significant contributions offensively. On the defensive side, Emma Meier ’28 led the team with an impressive 12 digs and 23 serve receives, setting the tone for the passing game.
Boys’ Soccer
At University School on Monday, TPS emerged victorious 2-1 in a tight non-conference match. Ty Ouradnik ’27 pressed the goalkeeper and forced a mistake to give the Hawks the lead in the 17th minute. Unable to build on the momentum and control the game, the team allowed USM to capitalize on errors and even the score on a penalty ten minutes later. The Hawks continued to fight and earned the victory through a wonderful goal set up by a Brennen Luchun Ledvina ’26 free kick that Giuliano Ferrentino ’26 headed into the goal for the game-winner with ten minutes left to play.
To end their regular season, the boys headed to Brookfield Academy (BA) and came away with a 3-1 comeback win. The Hawks conceded the first goal to BA in the 17th minute after failing to pressure the ball on the Knights long range effort. Despite executing at a high level through the rest of the first half, the Hawks went into the break down 1-0. Miles York ’26 quickly evened the score when he converted a bouncing ball in the box in the 47th minute. After Phil Ginestel ’27 earned a PK, Luchun Ledvina converted to give the Hawks the lead. Ginestel created again for the last goal of the game after he cleared the ball to Ferrentino who finished a nice bending effort from outside the box to seal the win. The boys look forward to postseason play beginning on Thursday, October 23 on their home field.

While no Hawks advanced to the Sectional round, Coach Schafer is hopeful to have Prairie representation at the State Tournament through the special qualifying process, which will be determined this Friday.

In their homecoming game last Friday, the Hawks beat Racine Park 2-0 in front of an incredible crowd. While the Panthers were ready for the challenge, the Hawks were not about to let them spoil the night in front of a capacity crowd. After a 0-0 first half, the boys made some tactical adjustments and played with more patience. Brennen Luchun-Ledvina ’26 opened the scoring in the 53rd minute and Rivera scored minutes later, both unassisted. The defense did a great job in limiting the chances for their cross-town rival.
In a fight for a share of the conference title against Shoreland on Monday, the boys took care of business against the defending state finalists. After an early scare bounced off the crossbar, the Hawks were able to settle into possession. They created a number of chances, but couldn’t put one away until Rivera took a pass from Phil Ginestel ’28 and dribbled past the defenders to score the game-winner. With the 1-0 win, the boys secured a share of the Metro Classic Conference title.

The Hawks traveled to Iowa last weekend to compete in the Great River Classic securing a strong win on Friday before facing a formidable opponent on Saturday.
The team opened with a convincing 3-1 victory over Timothy Christian (IL). Miles York ’26 opened the scoring with a fantastic curling effort from outside the box, setting up by Phil Ginestel ’27. Despite the physical nature of the game, the boys managed the intensity well. Nathan Breit ’26 added the second goal with a powerful header off a corner kick delivered by Victor Rossi ’28. After briefly conceding a goal, Liam Regner ’28 sealed the win, scoring calmly with his right foot on a through-ball from Breit.
Saturday brought a tough test against a quality St. Laurence (IL) team. With a number of starters resting for the match, the Hawks conceded three goals in a difficult first half. However, the team showed tremendous character and made a big tactical adjustment at halftime. The reserves who stepped onto the field in the second half formed a deeper defensive block and took immense pride in their effort, holding their opponent to very few chances and no goals in the second half.
“We were really proud with the reserves who stepped onto the field and did a really nice job as we worked as a team in a deeper block defensively,” said Coach Joe Manley. “It was a good test for us at this portion of the season.”

Boys’ Soccer
On Monday the Hawks traveled to Whitefish Bay to take on Dominican in a conference matchup and brought home a 2-0 win.
TPS came out firing with exceptional intensity, as Roy Rivera ’26 put away two goals within the first two minutes of the game. The first goal was created by Ty Ouradnik ’27, who pressed well in the midfield and chipped a beautiful through-ball to Rivera, and the second was all Rivera’s making, as he pressed their center backs to win his own possession before taking on the goalie 1v1.
The team dominated possession throughout the game, forcing the Dominican goalkeeper to record 11 saves. While the Hawks secured a good win away on a tiny pitch to keep the conference run going, the team acknowledged they could have performed better in their technique and timing of final passes.
On Wednesday the Hawks faced a significant cross-city rivalry and conference challenge, taking on Racine St. Catherine’s at Pritchard Park.
From the onset, the boys came out with the right intensity and energy, creating multiple chances and pressing well as a team across the field. The game’s scoring opened in the 33rd minute after a penalty was awarded to SC on the endline, which they converted to make it 1-0.
After halftime, the team picked up right where they left off, continuing to create chances while controlilng tempo and possession. The defensive line, anchored by Nathan Breit ’26 and Emmett Wassil ’28, set the stage for the team’s strong possession play. The Hawks earned a penalty in the 63rd minute on a handball in the box from a Brennen Luchun Ledvina ’26 free kick, and he stepped up coolly to put it away, tying the game 1-1.
The team created a number of chances, totaling 18 shots, but failed to convert the opportunities needed for the win as the match ended in a 1-1 tie. “Overall, it was a fantastic performance from our boys and we are proud of the application of the game plan, but still disappointed in the result,” said Coach Manley. “It was a positive step forward for us as we enter the second half of our season.”

In a Southeast Conference Mini Meet on Thursday, September 17th, the Hawks got off to a rough start before rallying for 2nd place in the event. Addy Ruetz ’26 (above) shot a 45, followed by Maddie Wruck ’29 and Eleanor Pitts ’28 who each shot a 48. Claire Holle ’26 shot a 50 while Alivia Arnone ’27 shot a 53.
At a scramble at Hawks’ View Golf Course on Monday the team emerged as the winners, shooting a 3-under-par.
The Hawks next took part in the Southeast Conference Championships on Thursday at Rivermoor. In their first Conference Championship meet as part of the SEC, the Hawks made their mark finishing in 2nd Place. Placing four Hawks in the top-ten, the girls made a lasting impression that TPS can compete against much larger schools. Holle finished in 2nd Place with a 91, followed by Ruetz who also shot a 91, but finished in 4th after tiebreakers. Pitts finished in 9th with an even 100 and Arnone took 10th with a 104.

Boys’ Soccer
Taking on defending state champion Lake Country Lutheran on Monday, the Hawks fell 3-2 to the Lightning. After Lake Country took an early lead off a free kick, TPS battled and both teams secured a fair amount of possession without creating more than a handful of chances.
Brennen Luchun Ledvina ’26 earned a corner kick in the second half which Phil Ginestel ’27 put away to even the score. After conceding possession and giving up a PK, the boys were unable to handle another freekick and the Lightning took the 3-1 lead. Immediately following the restart, Luchun Ledvina brought the Hawks to 3-2, but that was as close the boys would get. “Overall, this was a game of fine margins and in the run of play,” said Coach Joe Manley. “I thought we looked quite good, but it is in those little moments that games are defined and we were not switched on in all situations. Easy things to correct, but important things to get right.”
In a home conference match on Wednesday, the Hawks took on Kenosha St. Joe’s and won 5-3. Though Prairie dominated early possession, St. Joe’s scored first off a set piece and rode that to a 1-0 halftime lead. After some tactical tweaks, Roy Rivera ’26 tied the score off an assist from Luchun Ledvina. Rivera gave the team the lead with his second goal at the 48 minute mark. The boys continued to control possession and had goals added in the 56th minute by Luchun Ledvina, 66th minute from Rivera, and the 68th minute from Luchun Ledvina.
A lapse in focus, though, allowed St. Joe’s to score goals off two penalty kicks in the closing minutes to bring the score to the 5-3 final. “Although we won another conference match it was wholly unsatisfying as we know we are capable of so much more,” said Manley. “We look forward to rebounding and getting after it again at Dominican on Monday.”
Cross Country
It was a strong showing at the South Milwaukee Invitational last Saturday for the Hawks with both the girls’ and boys’ squads continuing to build momentum.
Prairie was the lone Division 3 school in a field that featured some of the top Division 1 teams in Wisconsin. On the girls’ side, Helina Slamka ’28 (18th Place) broke the 21-minute barrier and led the Hawks with an impressive 20:49 en route to earning a medal for the third consecutive race. Eleanor Burwell ’29 followed with a steady performance in 22:47.
For the boys, Cole Johnson ’27 led Prairie across the line in 21:25, with Liam Anton ’29 close behind in 22:01, dropping nearly a minute off his season best. Zander Rangel ’28, Martin Ostergard ’29 and Luca Castellano ’29 all finished strong and supported the effort.

Girls’ Volleyball
In their home opener on Thursday, September 11th, the Hawks took on conference rival St. Joe’s in a match that featured excellent intensity and determination. The girls ultimately fell to the Lancers 1-3 as Addie Zaleski ’27 and Brailey Johnson ’27 led the team offensively with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. “While the match was challenging, our team displayed resilience and made a strong effort against a talented opponent,” said Coach Kei Kondo.
The team traveled to take on some tough competition at the Kettle Moraine Tournament on Saturday, facing off against three Division 1 teams and a Division 3 team. Facing some injuries to key players, the Hawks were unable to secure a victory; however, the group showed poise and adaptability in playing new positions and having younger players step up. Lily MacDonald ’29 was one of those players and contributed greatly as the setter for the final three games of the tournament. “The results weren’t what we hoped for, but our team showed grit and growth,” said Kondo.
In a challenging away game against Dominican on Tuesday, the Hawks ultimately fell in straight sets 0-3. The team faced difficulties in overcoming Dominican’s height advantage, especially at the net, struggling to match up against the Knights powerful attacking and strong blocks. Zaleski led the team on offense finishing the match with a 20% hitting efficiency.
In an exciting 3-1 road win against Christian Life School on Thursday, Zaleski again led the offensive attack with an impressive 19 kills while also leading the team in serve receive with 31 attempts. Lilah Holle ’29 stepped up to take the place of an injured teammate and contributed eight kills.
